FROM A CELEBRATION TO A GLOBAL MOVEMENT
NO LIMITS BATTLE began in Montreal in 2008, one year after the creation of ILL-Abilities™ Crew in 2007.
What began as a celebration bringing the dance and disability communities together has grown into a unique movement experience built around adaptation, inclusion, and connection.
WHERE IT STARTED
When NO LIMITS BATTLE was first created, it wasn't designed to be an annual event.
It was created around the moments when the full ILL-Abilities™ Crew could come together.
With crew members living and working around the world, those moments were rare.
NO LIMITS BATTLE became a way to bring the crew, the dance community, and the disability community together to celebrate movement and humanity.

THE SPINNING WHEEL
Over time, NO LIMITS BATTLE developed its own unique battle concept.
At the center of the experience is the Spinning Wheel.
The wheel can introduce different equipment or movement challenges — including:
Wheelchairs
Crutches
Blindfolds
And more
Dancers must respond in the moment.
They must adapt their movement, rethink their approach, and find another way to express themselves.

LEARNING THROUGH MOVEMENT
BODY CONNECTION
Movement gives us a way to understand our own bodies differently.
ADAPTATION
When the conditions change, we learn to find new possibilities.

NO LIMITS creates opportunities for dancers and people with disabilities to learn from one another.
CONNECTION
Movement can create conversations that words sometimes cannot.
INCLUSION
The goal is not to separate people by ability — but to create spaces where people can move, create, and connect together.
AN IMPORTANT PART OF THE EXPERIENCE
NO LIMITS BATTLE does not suggest that a short experience can represent someone's lived experience of disability.
Instead, the experience creates an opportunity to listen, experience, adapt, learn, and connect.
It encourages participants to approach movement with curiosity, respect, and openness.
THE JOURNEY
2007
ILL-Abilities™ Crew is created.
A global crew of dancers with disabilities comes together to challenge perceptions of what is possible.
2008
NO LIMITS is created in Montreal.
A new experience brings the dance community and disability community together.
THROUGH THE YEARS
The concept evolves.
The Spinning Wheel becomes a defining part of the battle, challenging dancers to adapt and find new ways to move.
2023
No Excuses No Limits Movement Charity takes over production.
The organization commits to making NO LIMITS an annual event in Montreal and building toward an international future.
2027
The movement goes global.
The first international edition takes place in Hong Kong during the 20-year anniversary of ILL-Abilities™ Crew.
THERE IS ALWAYS ANOTHER WAY
You may change the equipment.
You may change the rules.
You may change the environment.
But movement continues.
NO LIMITS is a reminder that there is always another way to move, create, connect, and express yourself.
